PARKING at the Gold Coast Turf Club on the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions feature raceday (13th January) will be at a premium Club officials have warned.
The Club want people to seriously consider public transport as their preferred method of getting to and from the track.
Earlier this week details were released outlining temporary private vehicle traffic changes – a masterplan devised by Club management, Queensland Transport, Queensland Police, Gold Coast City Council, Surfside Buslines and Regent Taxis.
But they say leaving the car keys behind and jumping in a train, bus or taxi is the best way to be a winner on the day.
Gold Coast Turf Club Chief Executive, Grant Sheather, says extra buses from Nerang Rail, Paradise Point and Tweed Heads will run on the day, as well as free Shuttles to Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise after the races.
“Parking around the track itself is very much at a premium this year, so we’re asking people to consider alternatives to trying to drive right to the front gate,” Mr Sheather said.
“We’ve arranged to use the Gold Coast City Council Evandale Administration Centre carpark on Bundall road for parking and free shuttle bus pick up and drop off during the day, so people who are unable to catch a bus or a taxi at least have that alternative,” he said.
Mr Sheather said the traffic changes involve temporary road closures at all three access roads to the Club.
“Closures to private vehicles will be established on Racecourse Drive at the intersection with Ken Russell Court (southern access) and Waterford Court (northern access).
“No private vehicles will be allowed to enter past the Crombie Avenue – Upton Street roundabout, Ken Russell Court or Waterford Court after 2.00pm.
“The police will re-open the road at approximately 6.30pm depending on the traffic flow.
“Vehicles parked in the car parks of the Turf Club leaving the precinct after 2.00pm will be able to exit with ease and - as per normal racedays - cars leaving the carparks will only be allowed to turn left onto Racecourse Drive.
"There will be an increase in public transport available for all budgets and buses, limousines and taxis will have virtually unhindered access all day.
“If people must drive to the racecourse, they need to arrive early.
"We'll have plenty of police on ‘special services duty’ controlling traffic at various points to ensure a smooth traffic flow," he said.
