Fort 'n' Won Claims a stunning victory in the Emirates Airline Stakes

Date Released: Monday 15th January 2007
Egged on by the deafening roars from the crowd Fort ‘n’ Won gave spectators something to cheer about today after winning the Emirates Airline Stakes at the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Carnival at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

Beating stable mates Inthemix and July in the 2,200 metre Stakes, Fort ’n’ Won left its competition in its tracks to rightfully claim the $50,000 prize purse.

As part of the Emirates Ladies Day action, Emirates’ Mike Simon, Divisional Senior Vice President Corporate Communications was on hand to award owners Sean Darcy, Jockey Brad Stewart and trainer Gerald Ryan their trophies.

Mike Simon said the atmosphere and electric excitement surrounding the Gold Coast and the Magic Millions rivalled many of the horse racing events around the world.

He said: “We are proud to partner with the Gold Coast Turf Club and in these last three years of our involvement with the Magic Millions Carnival, we have seen the event growing in stature on the world stage and earn its stripes as a premier race meeting. 2007 marks Emirates’ fourth year of service in Brisbane and we want a major platform such as this one to say a big thank you to Queenslanders for their unstinting hospitality and support.”

This year’s Magic Millions Carnival is the third consecutive year that Emirates Airline has sponsored several events, both on and off the track, as part of their sponsorship with the Gold Coast Turf Club.

In addition to the outstanding day at the track, Emirates Airline also sponsored six other races including the Emirates SkyCargo Cup, The Skywards Plate, The Emirates Airline Challenge, Emirates Group Classic, Emirates Airline Handicap, and The Emirates Holidays Handicap.

With their reputation for exclusive trackside functions, Emirates invited a select group of guests to attend a VIP event in the Dome, overlooking the racing action.

Another major drawcard on the day was the colourful Emirates Airline Fashions on the Field that showcased the day’s finest off track competition.

The lucky winner of the highly competitive Most Contemporary Racewear category, Kara Wilmot from Albany Creek, received two business class return airfares flying Emirates to Dubai. The prize package for claiming the Emirates Airline Fashions on the Field crown is valued at A$5,000.

Fashionistas intending to compete at the Magic Millions Raceday this Saturday can enter the Emirates Airline Fashions on the Field from around 10.30am at the Fashions on the Field marquee, which will be situated at the beauty precinct lawn located to the left of the main turnstyle.
