PARK AND RIDE A MAGIC WAY TO GET TO THE MILLIONS
DATE RELEASED: 5th March 2008
PUNTERS and partygoers heading to the 2008 Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions feature day at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Monday 24th March are being urged to make the most of public transport and a nearby park and ride option.
A comprehensive traffic management plan has been devised for around the Bundall racecourse, involving full road closures at Racecourse Drive and Ken Russell Court, Racecourse Drive and Waterford Court and Crombie Avenue and Upton Street between 2:00pm and 7:00pm for incoming private vehicles.
Queensland Police will ensure access will only be available to public transport while patrons who have parked their cars earlier in the Turf Club car parks will be able to leave the precinct at any time.
Gold Coast Turf Club Chief Executive, Grant Sheather, has encouraged patrons to utilise a free ‘park and ride’ from the Gold Coast City Council Evandale Council Chambers on Bundall Road.
“It will be by far and away the easiest option for those who need to bring their car and, for those who don’t, there will be plenty of public transport operating on the day from most areas of the Coast.
“Free shuttle buses into Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise will also operate from the Turf Club from 3:00pm until the early evening.
“Our primary intention is to keep the streets around the racecourse as free as possible from congestion,” he said.
Mr Sheather also identified patron safety and security as an event organisational priority.
“We have plenty of CCTV cameras throughout the complex and there will be large numbers of Police and security personnel on hand.
“Our club adheres to a strict zero tolerance policy for any anti-social behaviour,” Mr Sheather said.
