NEWS RELEASE
GOLD COAST TURF CLUB’S EMPLOYEE STILL ON TRACK
Date released: Friday 8th May 2009
AFTER 35 years on track, experienced employee Steve Andrews has officially been appointed Racecourse Manager of the Gold Coast Turf Club.
Chief Executive, John Cameron made the announcement today and is pleased to welcome Andrews to the managerial role after a long career with the Club.
“Steve is a dedicated member of our team and has gained a wealth of knowledge over the years,” Mr Cameron said.
He has shown his capabilities previously in this role and I feel confident that he will do a fantastic job.”
Prior to Andrews’ appointment, his role as Assistant Racecourse Manager saw him working under Manager Geoff Fanning and more recently Jeff Haynes.
In 2007 Geoff Fanning retired after a lifetime or racing and Steve took the rains for 18 months as Acting Racecourse Manager.
For the past 12 months the position was held by Jeff Haynes, the former Racecourse Manager for the Australian Jockey Club.
Steve praised his predecessors and admits not only their influence but his fathers contributed to his career in racing.
“We had a very good working relationship, I love the people I work with and that is what makes it worthwhile.
Your body adjusts to the long hours and my dad always taught me that you only get out of life what you put in.
I’m excited to finally be at this point and to play a major role in the Club’s on-going developments,” said Steve.
Andrews’ father introduced him to the Club in 1974 where he began as a barrier attendant and progressed to Clerk of the Course in 1975.
In the early 80’s he assisted in a major change for the Club when they upgraded the course from the original to an extended track.
In the year 2000 Andrews’ was appointed Assistant Racecourse Manager, a position he held until today.
The Club’s CEO, John Cameron said, “Steve’s extensive involvement with the Club makes him an ideal candidate for this role.
The Club applauds his efforts in the past and supports him in his new title of Racecourse Manager for the Gold Coast Turf Club.”
