MELBOURNE CUP TOURS GOLD COAST

The 2009 Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour will make a flying visit to the Gold Coast Turf Club on Monday 5 October spurring excitement amongst the local racing fraternity in the prelude to the Spring Racing Carnival.
The first time the Cup has been to the Coast, Turf Club CEO John Cameron said “We welcome the opportunity for Gold Coast racing supporters to share this treasured Australian icon that is in our presence for a short time”.
Women In Racing Inc will host a Melbourne Cup Tour Luncheon in the Club’s exclusive Board Room venue attracting some very distinguished guests.
3 times Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jim Johnson is set to attend the event as is Mary Roosevelt, granddaughter of American Ex-President Roosevelt, former QLD Premier the honourable Robert Borbidge and Mrs Jenny Borbidge, Professor Mark von Itzstein Executive Director of the Institute for Glycomics, and local media personalities Rob Readings and Regina Tucker.
Women In Racing representative Jennifer Bartels said “It will be so wonderful to have the Cup here on the Coast. We are passionate about this event which came about after a five years of close association with the VRC Melbourne Cup Tour. It’s such an honour and privilege to be recognised as a worthy promoter of the Cup in Queensland and I’m thrilled Mary (Rosevelt),Bob (Borbidge) and Jim (Johnson) will be on-hand to celebrate the occasion” she said.
Guests will have the opportunity to have a photo taken with the cup and enjoy a fun afternoon of fashions, raffles and great company.
The iconic 18 carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy will visit 23 cities before returning to Flemington on Tuesday 3 November for the running of the 149th emirates Melbourne Cup.
