GOLD COAST TURF CLUB ANNOUNCES IMPRESSIVE CROWD INCREASES
LATEST FIGURES DEFY GLOBAL ECONOMIC SITUATION

THE Gold Coast Turf Club today released attendance figures that reveal major increases in patronage over the past year.

They show recent general attendances at the Bundall racecourse are up as much as 46.80% compared to the corresponding 2008 raceday with Member numbers at one September race meeting increasing by over 80%.

According to Gold Coast Turf Club Chief Executive John Cameron the figures are a pointer to the healthy state of racing on the Gold Coast.

“The results say as much about the quality of the local thoroughbred racing product as it does about our club and the racing experience we continue to improve and deliver week after week,” Mr Cameron said.

“Last Saturday (17th) for example we had a crowd of 4569 on track which was 15% up on 2008 while our functions saw a 6.1% improvement.

“But most significant of all on Saturday was the massive 50% increase in Member attendance – an amazing figure on its own but one eclipsed by even stronger Member support on the September 12th raceday when 83.6% more Members attended than the previous year.

“We have the V8’s in town this week, but there’s nothing to suggest we can’t have another bumper crowd along on Saturday after we posted a 13.5% general patronage increase on AFL Grand Final Day this year,” he said.

Mr Cameron said function bookings had increased on some days by as much as 36.9% (19th September).
